• Guest Reviews:  Read the Guest Reviews.  Always start here.  There is no use wasting your time if some other guest took the time to write a negative review.

• Security:  Security should always be an issue, especially for women, small children, and youngsters.  Does the property have insider corridors?  If not, move on.

• Star Rating:  Check the star rating.  Mobil Star ratings are the best and most accurate.  Diamond ratings are the next best source.  Hotels that are ranked 3, 4, or 5 star are the class.  2 stars be cautious.

• 2 Star Rating?  If a property is rated 2 stars, there is a reason for it.  It may offer you a better rate but the tradeoff is quality.  Very importantly, if you have any problem (room, cleanliness, security, etc.), you will have a harder time getting your money back.  Ask yourself, is it really worth the risk and hassle to save a few bucks?

• Age of Property/Renovated?  See how old the property is, especially if it is ranked less than 3 stars.  Has it been newly renovated?  Does it offer high speed wi-fi internet access?  If it does you can be reasonably sure that it is under good management.  If not, move on.
